Aviation News – IndiGo strengthens long-haul ambitions with new Airbus A350 order

India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has firmed up an order for 30 additional Airbus A350-900 aircraft, solidifying its plans to expand into long-haul international markets. The decision converts a June Memorandum of Understanding into a firm purchase agreement and underscores IndiGo’s commitment to global growth.

The deal, finalized on October 17, 2025, doubles IndiGo’s A350 fleet commitment to 60 aircraft, signaling a major shift from its traditionally short- and medium-haul operations. This move aligns with India’s growing role in global aviation and the government’s vision of establishing the country as an international air travel hub. Airbus will deliver the new widebody jets over the coming years, enabling IndiGo to serve key destinations across Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific.

Powered by the latest Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, the Airbus A350-900 offers exceptional range, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort. The aircraft’s advanced aerodynamics and lower carbon footprint make it a preferred choice for airlines expanding into intercontinental routes, providing IndiGo with both operational flexibility and cost efficiency.

Today is a special day for IndiGo as we solidify our commitment to expanding our international footprint and offering unparalleled connectivity to our customers,” said Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo. “This order reflects our confidence in the future of Indian aviation and our partnership with Airbus, as we take decisive steps toward becoming a leading global aviation player by 2030.

The new aircraft will enable IndiGo to open non-stop routes to major global cities, strengthening India’s connectivity and competitiveness in international air travel. Industry analysts expect the move to further consolidate IndiGo’s leadership position and set a new benchmark for Indian carriers on long-haul operations.

With this latest order, IndiGo reaffirms its role as a key driver of India’s aviation growth story, positioning itself to bridge India and the world through modern, efficient, and sustainable air travel.
