AviationNews – Rectified: Honda Aircraft has announced the successful completion of the first round of Type Inspection Authorization (TIA) testing for the Garmin Autoland system on its flagship HondaJet Elite II. This achievement marks a crucial step toward the final certification and integration of the revolutionary safety system.

The validation campaign is a formal Type Inspection Authorization (TIA), which is a critical phase in the certification process overseen by aviation authorities. These tests are designed to verify that the Garmin Autoland system, as integrated into the Elite II, functions safely and reliably according to its design. This development is part of the ongoing collaboration between Honda Aircraft and Garmin to bring this advanced safety feature to the light jet.

Garmin Autoland is an emergency system designed to autonomously control and land the aircraft in the event the pilot is incapacitated. When activated, the system can calculate a flight path, select the most suitable airport, communicate with air traffic control, and execute a complete autonomous approach and landing. This technology represents one of the most significant advancements in aviation safety.

“Successfully completing this first round of Type Inspection Authorization testing is a pivotal milestone for the HondaJet Elite II program,” a Honda Aircraft spokesperson stated. “It validates the system’s design and brings us one step closer to delivering this industry-leading safety feature to our customers.”

With these initial TIA tests complete, Honda Aircraft and Garmin will continue to work with regulators through the next phases of certification. The goal is to secure final approval, which will make the HondaJet Elite II one of the first aircraft in its class to offer this groundbreaking emergency system.

The completion of the initial TIA trials is a major technical accomplishment in the aircraft’s certification journey. This progression reinforces the HondaJet Elite II’s position at the forefront of light jet safety technology, promising a new level of security for its operators.
