Boeing has announced another delay in the delivery of its highly anticipated 777X aircraft, now expected to reach customers in 2027, following $15 billion in cumulative program charges. The setback marks another major challenge for the U.S. aerospace giant as it works to stabilize production and restore investor confidence.
The 777X, a next-generation variant of Boeing’s flagship widebody jet, has faced repeated delays since its initial unveiling. The program, launched in 2013, was intended to succeed the 777 and compete directly with the Airbus A350. Boeing’s latest postponement comes as the company addresses engineering challenges, certification requirements, and evolving market conditions. The delay also affects major airline customers such as Emirates, Lufthansa, and Qatar Airways, who have been awaiting the new model’s entry into service.
Designed with advanced composite wings, new GE9X engines, and improved aerodynamics, the 777X aims to deliver better fuel efficiency and lower operating costs compared to earlier models. Once operational, it is expected to become the world’s largest twin-engine jet, capable of carrying over 400 passengers on long-haul routes.
