Aviation News – Uzbekistan Airways has placed the largest aircraft order in its history, securing up to 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliners to expand its international fleet.
The flag carrier will acquire 14 Boeing 787-9 aircraft with options for eight more, strengthening its long-haul capacity while supporting nearly 35,000 U.S. jobs. The deal was signed during the United Nations General Assembly, with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev present alongside executives from Boeing and Uzbekistan Airways. A separate Memorandum of Cooperation between Boeing and the Ministry of Transport was also signed to boost Uzbekistan’s aviation ecosystem.
Uzbekistan Airways was the first Central Asian airline to operate the 787 and already connects major destinations in Europe, Asia, and the U.S., including direct flights to New York. The newly ordered 787-9 model offers greater passenger capacity and longer range, enabling the carrier to expand routes to additional U.S. cities and other long-haul destinations.
“The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has proven to be a game-changer for our operations, and this new order will help us meet growing international demand while modernizing our fleet,” an Uzbekistan Airways spokesperson said.
Industry analysts say the purchase positions Uzbekistan Airways as a stronger global competitor and highlights the country’s ambitions to become a key aviation hub in Central Asia. The agreement with Boeing may also encourage further collaboration in aviation infrastructure, training, and services.
With this order, Uzbekistan Airways reaffirms its commitment to fleet renewal and long-haul expansion. The arrival of the 787-9s is expected to enhance efficiency, passenger comfort, and global connectivity, underscoring the airline’s role in linking Central Asia with the world.
