Aviation News – Archer Aviation’s Midnight aircraft has successfully completed its highest altitude flight to date, reaching 7,000 feet in Salinas, California. The milestone marks significant progress in the company’s flight testing program as it advances toward commercial certification.

Archer Aviation Inc., a leading electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) developer, announced that the breakthrough occurred during envelope expansion testing at its Salinas facility. Midnight, designed for urban air mobility, achieved the feat just weeks after setting a distance and speed record. The program is part of the company’s broader plan to secure FAA certification in the U.S. and begin near-term operations in the UAE.

The test flight involved a steady climb followed by a level cruise at altitude, covering 45 miles at speeds above 120 mph. eVTOL aircraft are typically designed to operate between 1,500 and 4,000 feet, but Midnight’s ability to fly at higher altitudes offers added flexibility for traffic management in congested airspaces and operations in elevated cities.
