Aviation News – July 25, 2025 – Türkiye has signed a significant contract for the production of 57 additional T625 Gökbey general-purpose helicopters, marking a major step forward in its drive for self-reliance in defense technologies.

The deal was formalized between the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) during the 17th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025).

All helicopters will feature the domestically developed TEI-TS1400 turboshaft engines from TUSAŞ Engine Industries (TEI). Deliveries are expected to begin in 2028. The move aligns with Türkiye’s broader strategy to reduce reliance on foreign systems and boost national capabilities in the aviation sector.

TUSAŞ highlighted its commitment to advancing local technologies to meet the operational needs of both military and civilian agencies. This latest contract builds on earlier Gökbey deliveries to the Gendarmerie General Command and will support various branches of the Turkish security forces and public services.

By the end of 2026, 20 helicopters will be delivered to national forces, including units for the Land Forces, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Ministry of Health. Of the 57 new aircraft, six are designated for the Coast Guard. TUSAŞ also plans to boost output to four helicopters per month and target exports of up to 400 units by 2026.
