Aviation News July 3, 2025 – Malaysia Airlines is reportedly exploring the possibility of expanding its order of Airbus A330neo aircraft, with an announcement potentially coinciding with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to France, according to Reuters.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Paris on July 3, 2025, for a two-day official visit, which includes meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron. Industry observers suggest the visit could serve as the backdrop for a major aviation deal between Malaysia Airlines and Airbus.
Malaysia Airlines continues to modernize its fleet with the A330neo. In June 2025, the airline took delivery of its fourth Airbus A330-900, registered as 9M-MNK, following the inaugural aircraft’s high-profile arrival in December 2024.
Commenting on the milestone, the airline stated:
“From Airbus’s final assembly line in Toulouse to Malaysian soil, this aircraft represents more than just a delivery—it’s a commitment to bringing Malaysian Hospitality to the world, one journey at a time.”
The flag carrier initially ordered 20 A330neos in 2022, with deliveries set to continue through 2028. These new-generation aircraft are intended to replace the airline’s aging A330-300s and support network expansion across Asia and beyond.
The potential additional order highlights Malaysia Airlines’ strategy to invest in more fuel-efficient, modern wide-body aircraft to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency as it rebuilds and grows post-pandemic.
