Aviation News July 18, 2025 – Embraer and the Portuguese Air Force (FAP) have reached two major program milestones: the delivery of the third KC-390 Millennium and the successful first flight of the A-29N Super Tucano. The event was highlighted by a symbolic joint flight of both aircraft.
This KC-390 delivery is part of Portugal’s six-aircraft acquisition plan, with ten additional options available to NATO allies. Meanwhile, the A-29N marks Portugal’s role as the launch customer for the NATO-compliant Super Tucano variant, following a 12-aircraft order in 2024.
Major-General João Nogueira emphasized the significance for FAP’s modernization and interoperability goals, while Embraer CEO Bosco da Costa Junior underscored the strategic partnership.
With superior speed, range, and payload, the KC-390 supports missions from airlift to refueling and medevac. The A-29N adds a new dimension to advanced training and light attack roles.
