In a landmark agreement, Türkiye has finalized the largest defense export deal in its history with the sale of 48 Turkish Fighter KAAN aircraft to Indonesia. The deal was signed during the INDO Defence 2025 exhibition in Jakarta and marks a major milestone for Turkish Aerospace and the country’s growing defense industry.
The fifth-generation KAAN fighter jet—entirely developed and manufactured domestically by Turkish Aerospace—will be delivered to Indonesia over a 10-year period. The agreement not only includes the aircraft but also features significant technology transfer and industrial cooperation, enabling Indonesia to contribute to aspects of KAAN production using its own domestic capabilities.
The signing ceremony took place on June 11 in Jakarta, attended by key defense and government officials from both nations. Among the attendees were Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Türkiye’s President of Defence Industries Haluk Görgün, Indonesia’s Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Turkish Aerospace Chairman Ömer Cihad Vardan, Deputy Minister of National Defence Şuay Alpay, and Turkish Aerospace CEO Dr. Mehmet Demiroğlu.
All 48 KAAN jets will be equipped with engines developed within Türkiye, further underscoring the indigenous nature of the program. The collaboration extends beyond a traditional sales agreement, focusing on mutual development, knowledge sharing, and strengthening Indonesia’s local defense industry.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan praised the agreement, stating:“This deal, which reflects the remarkable progress of our national defense industry, will benefit both Türkiye and Indonesia. I express my gratitude to President Prabowo Subianto, under whose auspices the agreement was signed, and I congratulate all those involved—especially the Presidency of Defence Industries and Turkish Aerospace—for securing this historic export achievement.”
