WASHINGTON, June 6 — President Donald Trump signed three executive orders on Friday aimed at enhancing national airspace security and accelerating innovation in next-generation aviation technologies, the White House announced.
The new directives are designed to support the widespread deployment of drones beyond the visual line of sight of their operators—a crucial development for enabling commercial drone delivery services. The measures also target a reduction in U.S. dependence on Chinese drone manufacturers and support the testing and integration of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and supersonic commercial jets.
These moves are expected to benefit emerging aviation firms such as Joby Aviation (JOBY.N) and Archer Aviation (ACHR.N), which are working to bring eVTOL aircraft to market.
One of the executive orders establishes a federal task force focused on asserting American control over domestic airspace. The initiative will increase the use of drone-detection technologies by federal agencies, expand security zones around critical infrastructure, and offer new tools and support to state and local law enforcement agencies.
Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, emphasized the urgency of addressing aerial threats. “We are confronting the rising risks of criminal, terrorist, and foreign exploitation of drones in U.S. airspace,” he said. “These steps are part of a broader strategy to protect our skies and secure major public events such as the Olympics and the World Cup.
”The executive actions reflect growing federal concern about drone-related threats and the push to position the U.S. as a global leader in advanced air mobility.
