— Embraer (NYSE: ERJ / B3: EMBR3), a global aerospace leader, and the State of the Netherlands have signed a milestone contract to equip the Royal Netherlands Air Force’s C-390 Millennium fleet with an advanced Aeromedical Evacuation System.
The agreement—signed today at the Paris Air Show by Vice Admiral Jan Willem Hartman, Commander of the Materiel and IT Command, and Bosco da Costa Junior, President & CEO of Embraer Defense & Security—includes one firm order and seven additional purchase options. At the core of this new capability is a fully modular roll-on/roll-off aeromedical unit, designed as a compact airborne hospital. The system enables in-flight treatment of patients requiring intensive care, including full life support, and is also equipped to safely transport patients with infectious diseases—protecting both medical teams and flight crew.Fully compatible with the C-390’s existing Cargo Handling System (CHS), the modules can be quickly installed via the aircraft’s rear ramp, ensuring rapid deployment and seamless integration. This flexibility will greatly enhance the Royal Netherlands Air Force’s ability to respond to medical emergencies in both military and humanitarian operations.> “This system significantly increases the operational versatility of our C-390 Millennium fleet,” said Vice Admiral Jan Willem Hartman.
“With the ability to transform into airborne medical facilities, these aircraft will enable us to deliver critical care wherever and whenever it’s needed.”> Bosco da Costa Junior added: “The integration of this aeromedical system marks a major evolution in the C-390 Millennium’s multi-mission capabilities. This innovation will help save lives for decades to come and underscores the aircraft’s outstanding growth potential for allied air forces.”This development positions the Netherlands as a front-runner in next-generation aeromedical airlift capability and provides a modular solution adaptable for allied nations operating the C-390 platform.
