Lockheed Martin is developing a long-range maneuverable missile for the United States Army.

Lockheed Martin has been selected by the United States Army’s Aviation and Missile Center to develop an improved propulsion Long Range Maneuverable Fires (LRMF) missile. The missile may be launched from existing Army launchers to defeat distant threats at ranges well exceeding the PrSM baseline.

“Lockheed Martin is collaborating with the United States Army to provide soldiers with a decisive advantage on the battlefield by expanding their reach,” said Steven Botwinik, vice president of Advanced Product Execution and Transition at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. “With a half-century of experience integrating modern propulsion technologies and supporting the Army’s precision firing ecosystem, we are equipped to develop a solution that considerably increases the range of PrSM.”

Design and risk-reduction activities are the emphasis of Phase 1, with possible follow-on phases leading to flight test demonstration. Upon the completion of flight tests, the LRMF will be sent to the US Army’s Strategic and Operational Rockets and Missiles (STORM) project office to help shape the design of an extended-range Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) Increment (Inc.) 4.

Lockheed Martin’s solution will leverage unique design aspects and critical technologies to overcome size and endurance problems in order to achieve greatly enhanced range with launcher volume limits.
