From October 31 to November 18, the major military exercise Falcon Autumn took place in the Netherlands. During this exercise, large-scale airborne operations were practiced. More than a thousand military personnel from land and air forces and thirty-seven helicopters were deployed at various locations in the Netherlands.

The exercise was organized by the 11 Air Mobile Brigade and the Defense Helicopter Command.

Besides the Dutch helicopters from the Defense Helicopter Command (four Chinook transport helicopters, two Cougar transport helicopters, four Apache combat helicopters and two NH90 maritime combat helicopters), three Mi-8/Mi-17 transport helicopters from the Polish 25th Air Cavalry Brigade participated this year. The U.S. 12th Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) flew five Chinooks, eight Black Hawk transport helicopters and six Apaches over to the Netherlands.

Home base for these 3 weeks was located at Lieutenant General Best Barracks.
Large-scale collaborative airborne operation will be the highest training objective of the past 3 weeks.
Designated locations for this are: Wijk bij Duurstede, Ossesluis, Drachten, Malden, Emmen, Balloërveld, Prikkedam, Havelte, De Haar and Valkenburg (South Holland).

The purpose of the exercise is to train large-scale and airborne operations.

Although part of the exercise takes place in the public domain, Falcon Autumn is not a public event. Still, some were lucky enough to witness the impressive flight movements up close.
