Russian Soyuz spacecraft takes off for ISS with 3 astronauts

The Russian spacecraft Soyuz TMA-04M has been launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. It is taking three crew members to the International Space Station.

The trio will arrive at the station on Wednesday, joining three other Expedition 31 members, who have been there since December 2011. The trio will transition to the Expedition 32 crew in July and return to Earth in mid-September.

According to the mission plan, the spacecraft will remain docked at the space station to serve as an emergency escape vehicle during Expedition 31. This will be the model’s 113th flight since its first launch in 1967.
