Aviation News – Game Aerospace’s GB2 firefighting aircraft completed its first flight in Bentonville, Arkansas, on September 23, 2026, marking the start of flight testing for a new single-engine airtanker designed to carry 1,200 gallons of water or retardant.
The prototype was flown from Louise Thaden Field by Philipp Steinbach, Game Aerospace’s CEO, co-founder and test pilot. The company said the aircraft performed as expected during the maiden flight and completed the planned evaluations.
The first flight represents an important step in the development of the GB2 as Game Aerospace works toward FAA Part 23 standard-category certification. The aircraft is being developed specifically for firefighting operations, where rapidly deployable aerial tankers can support ground crews by delivering water or fire retardant to areas affected by wildfires.
The GB2 is a single-engine airtanker with a planned capacity of 1,200 gallons. During the flight-test program, the company will evaluate the aircraft’s performance and systems as development progresses toward certification and eventual operational use.
“This first flight marks an important milestone for the GB2 program,” said Philipp Steinbach, who conducted the maiden flight. Game Aerospace reported that the aircraft performed as expected and that the planned evaluations were successfully completed.
The start of flight testing opens the next phase of the GB2 firefighting aircraft program. Further testing and certification work will determine the aircraft’s readiness for production and its potential role in future aerial firefighting operations.
The maiden flight demonstrates that the Game Aerospace GB2 has moved from development into active flight testing.
