Aviation News – Greece has officially expressed interest in acquiring the Embraer C-390 Millennium, a move intended to revitalize the nation’s aging military transport capabilities. Defense Minister Nikos Dendias confirmed the potential purchase on May 7, 2026, during a high-profile diplomatic visit to Lisbon, highlighting a growing strategic partnership with Portugal.
The announcement followed a meeting between Dendias and his Portuguese counterpart, Nuno Melo. While specific numbers and costs remain under negotiation, Greece is evaluating an initial purchase of three aircraft with options for more to replace its critically depleted fleet of C-130 Hercules and C-27J Spartan jets. This interest is a central pillar of Athens’ ambitious €28 billion defense modernization plan, which aims to overhaul the armed forces by 2036.
