Turkey Warns Iran After NATO Air Defences Intercept Second Ballistic Missile in Turkish Airspace

Aviation News – Turkey said NATO air defences intercepted a second Iranian ballistic missile that entered Turkish airspace in southern Turkey, heightening tensions between Ankara and Tehran and testing NATO’s regional defence posture.

The interception marks the second Iranian missile shot down over Turkey within a week, according to Turkish authorities. Ankara, which fields NATO’s second-largest military, had already warned Tehran on Saturday not to repeat such actions. The latest incident occurred in southern Turkey, near the country’s border region, where air defence systems linked to the NATO missile defence network detected and destroyed the incoming projectile before it could reach populated areas. Turkish officials said the missile had crossed into national airspace from the direction of Iran.

The incident underscores the growing importance of integrated air and missile defence systems within NATO. These systems combine radar surveillance, early-warning networks, and interceptor missiles designed to detect and neutralize ballistic threats during flight. By intercepting the missile before impact, the defence network demonstrated its ability to protect NATO territory from cross-border ballistic threats while maintaining rapid response capability in a volatile region.
