Aviation News – Bridges Air Cargo has officially introduced the first Embraer E-Freighter into the European market, completing its inaugural commercial flight from Cologne, Germany, to Larnaca, Cyprus. This milestone marks a significant shift in regional logistics, providing a specialized solution for the Express Industry across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

The E190F aircraft was delivered to launch customer Bridges Air Cargo through a partnership with the lessor Regional One. The selection of this airframe follows a rigorous development and conversion process aimed at filling the gap in the regional cargo market. By obtaining its own Air Operator Certificate (AOC) in Malta, Bridges Air Cargo has established a strategic platform to expand its fleet and operational reach within the EMEA region.

Development of the E-Freighter program focused on transforming passenger jets into efficient cargo carriers to meet the rising demand for e-commerce and time-sensitive deliveries. The project involved 12 months of intensive preparation, including the creation of bespoke containers and specialized handling systems designed specifically for this airframe. The successful landing in Cyprus validates the year-long effort to integrate this new capacity into global supply chains.

The aircraft is engineered to carry a payload between 8 and 12 tonnes, making it an ideal “right-sized” jet for routes where larger freighters are inefficient. Its technical design allows for faster loading times and optimized fuel consumption, offering Network Solutions that bridge the gap between smaller turboprops and larger narrow-body freighters. This operational flexibility ensures that time-sensitive materials reach their destinations with greater frequency and lower overhead.

“We have worked tirelessly over the past 12 months developing a bespoke container and devising handling systems to make this day possible,” said Guy Bridges, CEO of the Bridges Group. “We are grateful to Embraer and Regional One for their unwavering support and expect the Embraer 190 freighter to play an important role for Bridges to provide network solutions.”

The entry into service of the E190F signals a new era for regional air freight, with more conversions expected to follow as the program matures. As global logistics providers seek more agile ways to move goods, the success of this first flight serves as a blueprint for future E-Jet cargo operations worldwide.
