Aviation News – Lockheed Martin has secured a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) contract to provide a suite of high-tech training devices and system upgrades for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). Awarded through Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, this agreement will significantly expand Australia’s capacity to train crews for its growing fleet of C-130J-30 Super Hercules tactical airlifters.
Scheduled to begin in 2029, the delivery includes two Weapon Systems Trainers, an Enhanced Integrated Cockpit Systems Trainer (EICS), and a Loadmaster Part-Task Trainer. The contract also covers critical technical upgrades to the RAAF’s existing Virtual Simulation and Virtual Maintenance Trainers. This development follows Australia’s 2023 commitment to purchase 20 new C-130J-30 aircraft—a multi-billion dollar investment to replace and supplement its current aging fleet.
The new simulators feature cutting-edge graphics, motion cueing, and high-fidelity cockpit replication designed to mirror the operational aircraft with exacting detail. Because Lockheed Martin is the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), these devices are built for total concurrency with the incoming aircraft. This ensures that Australian pilots and loadmasters can master new mission capabilities in a safe, virtual environment before the physical planes even arrive at RAAF Base Richmond.
