Aviation News – German sensor specialist HENSOLDT and defence technology firm Helsing have formed a strategic partnership to develop AI-enabled combat air systems, aiming to strengthen Europe’s sovereign defence capabilities and reduce reliance on non-European technologies amid rising geopolitical tensions.

The agreement brings together HENSOLDT’s expertise in radar, sensor and electronic warfare systems with Helsing’s software-driven artificial intelligence platforms. Announced as a long-term collaboration, the partnership will initially focus on Helsing’s autonomous combat aircraft, the CA-1 Europa, a next-generation uncrewed system intended to boost Europe’s defence readiness and technological leadership at a time when regional security concerns are intensifying.

The CA-1 Europa is designed as an AI-powered autonomous aircraft capable of operating with limited human oversight, supporting manned fighters or performing independent missions such as reconnaissance, electronic warfare and precision strikes. By integrating HENSOLDT’s advanced sensors and situational awareness technologies, the platform is expected to process battlefield data faster and react in real time, improving survivability and operational effectiveness while reducing pilot risk.
