Aviation News – SAS Scandinavia Airlines is in talks with Airbus and Boeing over a potential widebody jet order as it looks to bolt its long-haul network and meet rising intercontinental travel demand.
Bloomberg reported on February 4, 2026, that SAS chief executive Anko van der Werff confirmed discussions with both manufacturers, with the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X under consideration. The airline has not disclosed the number of aircraft involved but signaled the scale could be significant, reflecting renewed growth ambitions after several years of restructuring and shifting market conditions.
Both aircraft types target high-capacity, long-range routes linking Scandinavia with North America and Asia. The A350 offers lower fuel burn and reduced emissions through lightweight materials and modern engines, while the 777X promises extended range and larger seating capacity, giving SAS flexibility to match aircraft size with demand and improve operating efficiency on trunk routes.
