Aviation News – EVA Air has approved the purchase of four Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and the renewal of leases on four Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, reinforcing its long-haul fleet strategy as international travel demand continues to recover.

The decision was approved by the Taiwanese carrier’s board on 26 December, with the 787-9 agreement valued at up to $1.94 billion. Alongside the new widebody order, EVA Air also authorized the extension of existing lease contracts for part of its Boeing 777-300ER fleet, ensuring operational continuity on key intercontinental routes.

The Boeing 787-9 is a long-range, fuel-efficient widebody designed for medium- to long-haul services, offering lower operating costs and improved passenger comfort compared with older-generation aircraft. By adding more Dreamliners while retaining the proven 777-300ER, EVA Air maintains flexibility across its network, balancing capacity, range, and efficiency.

EVA Air stated that the fleet decisions support its long-term growth and competitiveness. The airline emphasized that ongoing investment in modern aircraft is essential to meet passenger expectations while managing fuel efficiency and environmental performance.

Looking ahead, the combination of new aircraft acquisitions and lease renewals positions EVA Air to respond to future demand growth without major short-term capacity disruptions. The move also underscores continued confidence in Boeing widebody aircraft as a cornerstone of the airline’s international operations.

Overall, the board’s approval highlights EVA Air’s measured approach to fleet modernization, pairing incremental expansion with stability. As global travel continues to normalize, the airline is aligning its fleet to remain competitive in the Asia-Pacific and long-haul markets.
