Aviation News – Joby Aviation has completed its final international flight demonstration of 2025 in Japan, marking a major milestone toward commercial electric air taxi service and FAA certification.
The week-long campaign took place at Fuji Speedway in collaboration with Toyota Motor Company and included 14 piloted flights, concluding a year of accelerated global testing for the California-based aerospace company. The effort capped more than 850 flights conducted in 2025 across Joby’s fleet, totaling over 50,000 miles flown.
This expanded flight activity represents a 2.6-fold increase over the previous year and reflects growing operational maturity. The demonstrations are part of a broader push to validate aircraft design, manufacturing processes, and regulatory readiness as Joby works toward FAA Type Certification and its goal of launching passenger service in 2026.
Operationally, the campaign helped confirm the reliability and repeatability of Joby’s electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft under real-world conditions. The flights tested piloted operations, ground coordination, and system performance, reinforcing confidence that the aircraft can scale safely—an essential bolt in the certification process.
“Completing this final international demonstration of the year shows how far our program has advanced,” said a Joby Aviation spokesperson. “The pace and consistency of our flight operations are critical to proving the aircraft is ready for commercial service.”
Looking ahead, Joby plans to build on this momentum by continuing certification testing and preparing its manufacturing and operational infrastructure for passenger operations. The company aims to introduce electric air taxi services that reduce congestion and emissions in major urban areas.
