Aviation News – Emirates will take over maintenance, repair and overhaul of Trent 900 engines for its A380 fleet from 2027, following a new memorandum of understanding with Rolls-Royce.

Dubai-based Emirates announced the agreement on Thursday, marking a major shift in how the airline manages long-term support for its Trent 900-powered A380 aircraft. The arrangement, signed as an MoU with Rolls-Royce, lays the groundwork for expanded internal capabilities and deeper collaboration between the two companies.

The Trent 900 is the powerplant used across Emirates’ large A380 fleet, and bringing maintenance and overhaul work in-house will streamline support, reduce turnaround times, and strengthen operational independence. The agreement follows years of cooperation between the airline and Rolls-Royce, and aligns with Emirates’ long-term fleet-sustainment strategy.

By 2027, Emirates will be equipped to perform full overhauls of the Trent 900, including major inspections and component replacements. Consolidating this work internally is expected to improve scheduling flexibility and boost aircraft availability across one of the world’s largest widebody fleets.
