UAE Orders 50 Omen Autonomous Aircraft in New Anduril–Edge Defense Partnership

Aviation News – The United Arab Emirates has placed an order for 50 next-generation Omen autonomous aircraft, marking the first major deal under a new joint venture between U.S. defense technology firm Anduril and the UAE’s state-owned Edge Group. The move underscores the Gulf nation’s growing investment in advanced, AI-enabled defense systems.

Formed in Abu Dhabi, the Edge–Anduril Production Alliance represents a significant collaboration between Western and Middle Eastern defense innovators. The Omen system — a hover-to-cruise autonomous aircraft — is the first of several platforms to emerge from the partnership. The initial order signals the UAE’s intention to accelerate indigenous production and integrate modern unmanned technologies into its defense strategy.

The Omen aircraft combines vertical take-off and landing capabilities with fixed-wing cruising efficiency, enabling flexible deployment across multiple missions. Designed for both surveillance and operational support, the system reduces the need for runways and traditional infrastructure while extending operational range and endurance.

The deal positions the UAE as an early adopter of advanced autonomous flight systems and strengthens its role as a hub for defense technology innovation. Further collaborations between Edge and Anduril are expected to yield additional platforms tailored for both regional and international markets.

By blending AI-driven design with local production, the partnership could redefine how autonomous systems are developed and deployed globally — signaling a new era of smart defense manufacturing in the Middle East.
