Aviation News – Korean Air has selected U.S.-based Archer Aviation as its exclusive partner to introduce electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in South Korea.The agreement includes the potential purchase of up to 100 of Archer’s Midnight aircraft, marking a significant step toward advancing urban air mobility (UAM) in the region.Korean Air and Archer plan to jointly commercialize the Midnight eVTOL, focusing on multiple applications that align with South Korea’s national transportation and sustainability goals.
The collaboration follows the Korean government’s 2022 announcement that eVTOL and UAM technologies are strategic priorities under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport’s mobility innovation program.Archer’s Midnight is a piloted, four-passenger eVTOL designed for short urban trips of around 20 miles, recharging rapidly between flights. Its all-electric design aims to reduce urban congestion, noise, and carbon emissions, offering a faster, cleaner, and more efficient alternative to ground transportation.
