Aviation News – Global aircraft leasing leader Avolon has signed a landmark firm order with Boeing for 140 737 MAX aircraft, significantly bolstering its long-term fleet capacity and market position.
This major acquisition drives Avolon’s total firm aircraft commitments to 749 units, underscoring strong confidence in modern, fuel-efficient narrowbody jets. The transaction remains subject to approval by the shareholders of Bohai Leasing Co., Ltd., Avolon’s 70% majority shareholder, with clearance anticipated before the end of October 2026. Alongside this blockbuster order, Avolon reported robust Q3 business activity, including the acquisition of 10 aircraft, the sale of 29 units, and agreements for the further sale of 112 aircraft by the close of the quarter.
Operationally, the leasing giant placed 28 new-technology aircraft from its existing commitments, finishing the period with an impressive 89% of its committed fleet placed for the next 24 months. The company also executed 84 lease agreements, extensions, and amendments during the period, bringing its total owned, managed, and committed fleet to 1,092 aircraft or 1,342 pro forma for the new Boeing order. Financial resilience was further reinforced by establishing a US$1.5 billion commercial paper programme and closing a US$855 million unsecured term loan backed by a syndicate primarily consisting of Asian banks.
The addition of these modern narrowbody aircraft enhances operational efficiency, reduces carbon emissions, and allows airlines to meet surging passenger demand with reliable, next-generation technology.
“This landmark order reflects our unwavering commitment to providing our airline customers with the most fuel-efficient and modern fleet in the industry, positioning Avolon for sustained long-term growth,” noted an Avolon spokesperson regarding the strategic significance of the agreement.
Looking ahead, this multi-billion-dollar commitment ensures that Avolon remains at the forefront of global aviation leasing, ready to support airlines navigating fleet modernization and capacity expansion over the coming decade.
