Aviation News – Singapore Airlines has been named the world’s best carrier at the latest Skytrax World Airline Awards, ending the consecutive winning streak of Qatar Airways. The Middle Eastern carrier finished in second place overall, closely followed by Cathay Pacific Airways in third position.

The prestigious Skytrax awards, widely regarded as the highest benchmark in global aviation, evaluate passenger satisfaction and service quality across hundreds of international carriers. Qatar Airways entered the selection as a dominant competitor, having previously been named the world’s best airline nine times—winning the main title in 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025. However, the latest customer voting denied the Doha-based airline a third consecutive victory, shifting the global top honor back to Singapore Airlines.

Despite missing out on the primary title, Qatar Airways maintained a formidable standing in the overall evaluation by securing multiple individual category honors. The top three finish underscores the continued dominance of Asian and Middle Eastern aviation hubs in shaping luxury global air travel standards. Meanwhile, Cathay Pacific Airways solidified its strong comeback in the international standings by securing third place.

The Skytrax evaluation system measures passenger experience through extensive global surveys covering ground services, cabin comfort, operational reliability, and onboard catering quality. Retaining a top-three ranking requires consistent service standards across long-haul flight networks and high-density hub airports.

“We are grateful to our customers for their trust and support, and we are committed to delivering an exceptional, world-class travel experience every time they fly with us,” stated Singapore Airlines Chief Executive Officer Goh Choon Phong following the presentation.

The shift at the top of the global standings reflects intensifying competition among premium international airlines as passenger expectations continue to rise. As legacy carriers invest heavily in cabin upgrades, digital passenger amenities, and hub infrastructure, maintaining a top ranking will require ongoing capital investment and operational precision.

Qatar Airways remains one of the most decorated carriers in modern aviation history, backed by its impressive record of nine overall Skytrax victories. While Singapore Airlines currently holds the premier position, the narrow margin between the leading global carriers highlights an active rivalry at the top tier of commercial flight. Moving forward, both carriers are expected to expand premium offerings to capture international market share.
