Aviation News – Embraer has officially delivered the first C-390 Millennium multi-mission transport aircraft to the Czech Air Force, marking a critical milestone in modernizing the nation’s strategic airlift and bolstering its NATO operational capabilities.
The official handover ceremony took place today at Prague Kbely Air Base. High-profile attendees included Jaromír Zůna, Czech Minister of Defense, General Miroslav Hlaváč, Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces, and General Petr Tománek, Commander of the Czech Air Force, alongside Bosco da Costa Junior, President & CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. The delivery occurred just 20 months after the acquisition agreement was signed, demonstrating the manufacturer’s rapid production capability.
This milestone highlights the deep collaboration between the Brazilian manufacturer and the Czech Republic, which has actively participated in the C-390 program since its inception. The program heavily utilizes Czech aerospace industry components. Local manufacturers contribute to the development and fabrication of structural parts, securing long-term economic integration and technological exchange.
Engineered for modern military demands, the twin-engine jet C-390 Millennium can transport a maximum payload of 26 tonnes, outperforming other medium transport aircraft in speed and range. The multi-mission platform operates seamlessly from temporary or unpaved runways. It supports diverse operational needs, including troop transport, medical evacuation, search and rescue, and aerial firefighting.
“The C-390 Millennium provides the Czech Air Force with a significant new airlift capability, enabling us to transport heavy and oversized cargo over long distances while strengthening our support for NATO operations and emergency response at home,” said Brigadier General Jaroslav Falta, Commander of the 24th Air Transportation Base. He added that the aircraft’s true strength lies in the professionalism and dedication of the military personnel putting it into service.
The delivery positions the Czech Republic among an expanding network of nations relying on the C-390 Millennium as the new benchmark for tactical airlift.
