Aviation News – The United States Department of State has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to Austria for the acquisition of twelve UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters. The proposed purchase is aimed at strengthening Austria’s military airlift, disaster response, and operational readiness capabilities.
The approval marks a significant step in Austria’s ongoing efforts to modernize its rotary-wing fleet and enhance national defense capabilities. The proposed sale was formally approved by the U.S. government following Austria’s request to acquire the latest variant of the widely used Black Hawk helicopter.
Austria has operated earlier versions of the UH-60 Black Hawk for many years, using them for troop transport, humanitarian missions, search and rescue operations, and disaster relief efforts. The selection of the UH-60M reflects a broader trend among allied nations seeking proven and interoperable platforms capable of supporting both military and civilian emergency operations.
