Aviation News – Vietnam Airlines has officially signed a landmark agreement to purchase 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, marking the flag carrier’s first-ever commitment to Boeing’s single-aisle family. This massive investment aims to catalyze the airline’s domestic and regional expansion as travel demand in Southeast Asia reaches record heights.
The deal was finalized on February 18, 2026, during a high-profile ceremony in Washington, D.C., attended by Vietnamese General Secretary To Lam and U.S. government officials. Valued at approximately $8.1 billion at list prices, this order forms the cornerstone of Vietnam Airlines’ long-term strategy to modernize its fleet. The new jets will complement the carrier’s existing 787 Dreamliner fleet, providing a streamlined and efficient solution for short- to medium-haul routes.
