Aviation News – A SunExpress Boeing 737-8HC experienced a significant mechanical failure on February 13, 2026, when its left main landing gear leg broke while taxiing at Antalya Airport. All 175 passengers and six crew members on board flight XQ7646 were safely accounted for without injury despite the substantial damage sustained by the aircraft.

The incident occurred as the aircraft, registered as TC-SOB, was maneuvering toward runway 36R for its scheduled departure. Following the collapse, ground emergency teams responded immediately to secure the scene and assist in the safe deplaning of those on board. The aircraft was promptly taken out of service for inspection, and the airline mobilized a replacement Boeing 737-8AS, registered as TC-SOP, which eventually completed the journey after a delay of approximately five and a half hours.

The collapse of a main landing gear leg during taxiing is a rare but serious structural event that often points to fatigue or material failure. In this instance, the weight of the fully fueled aircraft likely placed immense pressure on the compromised component, leading to a break that caused the airframe to tilt and strike the pavement. Such incidents necessitate a deep technical review to determine if the failure was a result of long-term wear or an unforeseen manufacturing defect.
