Aviation News – Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) says sustained long-range strikes over the past year have destroyed or disabled Russian air defense assets valued at about $4 billion, a claim highlighting Kyiv’s growing strike reach and its impact on Russia’s layered defenses.

The SBU said the campaign targeted a wide range of Russian systems, including S-300, S-350 and S-400 surface-to-air missile batteries, as well as BUK-M1 and BUK-M2 units and Pantsir-S1 and Pantsir-S2 systems, along with radar reconnaissance and guidance assets. According to the agency, the operations were conducted throughout 2024 as part of a broader effort to weaken Russia’s integrated air defense network.

The SBU reported that the strikes had a systemic effect by opening corridors in Russia’s multi-layered air defense architecture, enabling Ukrainian long-range drones to penetrate deep into Russian territory. These corridors allowed attacks on military bases, warehouses, airfields and other key facilities, increasing the operational freedom of Ukrainian unmanned systems.
