Aviation News – Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has already cancelled around 450 flights due to heavy snowfall, with more disruptions expected, underlining the weather’s growing impact on European air travel.

The situation matters for passengers and airlines as winter conditions continue to strain airport operations and schedules.

Severe winter weather has disrupted operations at Schiphol throughout the day, following a similar pattern on the previous day when more than 600 flights were cancelled. Dutch flag carrier KLM confirmed it would cancel at least 124 flights, as airlines and airport authorities attempt to manage safety and capacity amid persistent snow.

Snowfall affects runway availability, aircraft de-icing cycles, and ground handling efficiency, reducing the number of safe take-offs and landings per hour. These operational constraints force airports like Schiphol to proactively cancel flights to maintain safety and prevent wider network disruptions.
