Aviation News – Turkey’s Ministry of National Defense confirmed it shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle after it approached Turkish airspace over the Black Sea, triggering the scramble of F-16 fighter jets to protect national airspace. The incident underscores Ankara’s strict air defense posture amid heightened regional vigilance.
In a statement released on December 15, 2025, the ministry said the unidentified air track was detected during routine monitoring activities and immediately placed under surveillance. As a precautionary measure, F-16 aircraft operating under both NATO and national air defense command structures were assigned an alarm reaction mission.
According to defense officials, the response followed established air policing procedures. Once the UAV was assessed as a potential risk, Turkish air defense assets acted swiftly, with fighter jets deployed at bolt-speed readiness to ensure airspace integrity and safety over the Black Sea region.
