Joby Aviation and Metropolis Plan 25 Vertiports Across the United States

Joby Metropolis

Aviation News – Joby Aviation has partnered with Metropolis Technologies to develop 25 vertiports across the United States, supporting the rollout of electric air taxi services. The collaboration matters because it accelerates urban air mobility by using existing parking infrastructure to enable faster market entry.

The partnership brings together Joby Aviation, a developer of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, and Metropolis Technologies, a leader in applied artificial intelligence for real-world infrastructure. The announcement follows Metropolis’ $1.5 billion acquisition of SP+ and a $1.6 billion Series D funding round, positioning the company as the largest parking operator in North America with more than 4,200 locations and aviation services at over 350 sites.

Under the plan, vertiports will be strategically selected from Metropolis’ nationwide footprint in early electric air taxi markets. The facilities will integrate Metropolis’ AI-based computer vision and recognition technology, bolting advanced access, monitoring, and operational systems onto both new and existing sites to streamline passenger flow and aircraft operations.
