Oman Selects Airbus to Build and Launch Its First National Communications Satellite

Oman has signed an agreement with Airbus to design, manufacture and launch the nation’s first communications satellite, marking a major step in the country’s long-term space strategy.

Oman’s state news agency announced the selection on Sunday, confirming a partnership that places Airbus at the centre of the sultanate’s initial move into sovereign satellite capability. The agreement represents a milestone for Oman as it seeks to expand digital infrastructure, enhance secure communications, and strengthen its regional technological competitiveness.

The satellite program will involve Airbus designing and producing the spacecraft, as well as managing its launch. Once operational, the system is expected to support government communications, connectivity services, and future digital applications across the country and remote areas.
