Aviation News – Airbus Delivers First A400M to Indonesian Air Force
Airbus Defence and Space has delivered Indonesia’s first A400M military transport aircraft, marking a key step in the nation’s defense modernization program. The aircraft will enhance Indonesia’s ability to conduct strategic and humanitarian airlift operations across its vast archipelago.
The handover ceremony took place at Halim Air Force Base in Jakarta on 3 November 2025, following the official transfer from Airbus’s facility in Seville, Spain. This marks the first of two A400M aircraft ordered by Indonesia in 2021, with the second expected to arrive in 2026. The acquisition reflects Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its air mobility and disaster response capacity.
The A400M is a versatile heavy-lift aircraft capable of transporting oversized cargo, troops, and vehicles over long distances and to remote areas with limited infrastructure. Its advanced engines and multi-role capability allow it to perform both tactical and strategic missions, as well as humanitarian and medical evacuation operations.
“Today we welcome Indonesia as the tenth operator of the A400M,” said Karl-Heinz Grossman, Head of International at Airbus Defence and Space. “This delivery demonstrates our shared commitment to strengthening air mobility and regional security.”
The addition of the A400M is expected to significantly enhance the Indonesian Air Force’s operational reach and logistical support. With its modern fleet expansion, Indonesia is positioning itself to better respond to both national defense and disaster relief missions in the coming years.
The A400M delivery marks a milestone in Indonesia’s military modernization journey, reflecting the nation’s commitment to developing a capable and flexible air transport fleet for future challenges.
