Aviation News – Boeing has broken ground on a major expansion of its Boeing South Carolina (BSC) site, enabling the company to increase 787 Dreamliner production to 10 aircraft per month by 2026 amid rising global demand.

The investment, announced previously in late 2024, will exceed $1 billion and is expected to create more than 1,000 new jobs over the next five years. The expansion will take place at Boeing’s site near Charleston International Airport as well as at a secondary campus, strengthening the company’s manufacturing presence in the region and supporting its long-term widebody production strategy.

The project includes a new final assembly building comparable in size to the current 1.2 million-square-foot facility, along with new production support areas, office space, a dedicated parts preparation facility, a vertical fin paint building, additional Flight Line stalls, and enhancements to the Interiors Responsibility Center where key 787 Dreamliner cabin components are produced.

“This expansion reflects the continued confidence airlines have in the fuel-efficient 787 Dreamliner and our commitment to meeting that demand,” the company said. “Boeing South Carolina remains central to our future production strategy and to supporting customers worldwide.”

The expanded facilities are expected to improve production flow, reduce bottlenecks, and provide greater flexibility in meeting delivery schedules as airlines refresh their long-haul fleets. The move also signals a continued recovery in the widebody market, which has seen renewed interest as international travel rebounds.
