Aviation News – The Australian Army has begun flying its first AH-64E Apache attack helicopters in Townsville, marking a major milestone in the introduction of the advanced combat platform into national service.

The announcement, made by the Australian Government Department of Defence on 28 November 2025, confirms that all required checks and approvals have been completed, clearing the aircraft for safe operation. The AH-64E represents the Army’s most significant rotary-wing capability upgrade in years, following a multi-year selection and acquisition process aimed at strengthening Australia’s armed forces.

The AH-64E features advanced sensors, improved flight performance, and enhanced networked targeting systems. Its ability to integrate with ground units and other aircraft provides a substantial boost to battlefield awareness, precision engagement, and operational flexibility across complex environments.
