Aviation News – The U.S. Army has placed a $461 million order for nine Boeing CH-47F Block II Chinook helicopters, marking a major step in its drive to modernize its heavy-lift aviation capabilities. The order covers production Lots 4 and 5 of the advanced helicopter variant, underscoring continued investment in proven platforms for future missions.
The Army’s latest authorization, announced this week, builds on earlier procurement rounds for the CH-47F Block II program, which began as part of a broader effort to enhance lift performance and payload capacity across the service’s aviation fleet. Boeing has been working closely with the U.S. Army since the first Block II units were selected, refining the design to meet evolving operational requirements.
The CH-47F Block II features improved drivetrain systems, advanced rotor blades, and reinforced airframes designed to increase lift capability and extend service life. These upgrades allow the aircraft to transport heavier loads over greater distances, significantly boosting logistical efficiency and mission flexibility for both combat and humanitarian operations.
