Aviation News – Lithuania strengthens its air mobility capabilities
The Lithuanian Air Force has taken delivery of its first two UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, marking a key milestone in the country’s $213 million defense modernization program. The acquisition enhances Lithuania’s national defense and interoperability with NATO allies.
The two aircraft, built by Sikorsky, were unveiled on October 19, 2025, in an image shared by the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Lithuania initially ordered four UH-60M Black Hawks in 2020, with an option for two additional units to be added later. The deal underscores Lithuania’s continued investment in modernizing its military assets amid evolving regional security dynamics.
The UH-60M Black Hawk, a versatile multirole helicopter, offers advanced avionics, greater lift capacity, and improved safety systems compared to its predecessors. It will provide enhanced tactical transport, medical evacuation, and support operations for Lithuania’s armed forces and NATO missions.
“This delivery represents a major step forward in strengthening Lithuania’s defense readiness and ensuring compatibility with NATO operations,” said a spokesperson for the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence. “The Black Hawks will significantly enhance our ability to respond rapidly to both national and regional security challenges.”
The remaining two helicopters are expected to arrive in the coming months, completing the initial batch. The new fleet is set to replace aging Soviet-era Mi-8 helicopters and will play a vital role in modernizing Lithuania’s rotary-wing capabilities for the next decade.
With this delivery, Lithuania positions itself as one of the few Baltic nations equipped with state-of-the-art U.S.-made helicopters, reinforcing its commitment to collective defense and regional stability.
