AviationNews – Dutch drone manufacturer DeltaQuad is significantly expanding its production capabilities through a new strategic partnership, a move directly supporting both the Netherlands’ domestic defence industry and the urgent supply of battlefield-proven Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to Ukraine. The expansion signals the growing importance of local high-tech manufacturing in meeting rising global military demand.
DeltaQuad, based in Duivendrecht, Netherlands, recently announced a partnership with VDL Groep to scale up production of its long-range DeltaQuad Evo surveillance drone. This collaboration directly responds to the Dutch government’s call to strengthen domestic defence industrial capabilities and is part of the larger ‘Drone Action Plan,’ which includes a significant contract to supply drones for Ukraine’s frontline resilience. The DeltaQuad Evo, a Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) fixed-wing drone, is already recognized for its effectiveness on the battlefield.
The DeltaQuad Evo’s fixed-wing design with VTOL capability allows it to launch and land from confined spaces without a runway, making it ideal for rapid deployment in diverse, challenging environments. It boasts impressive operational metrics, including a maximum flight range of up to 272 km and a flight time exceeding four hours for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. The electric, autonomous aircraft features a modular design for interchangeable payloads, including high-resolution cameras, thermal imaging, and advanced anti-jamming GPS systems.
“This partnership marks an important step forward in our shared efforts to make high-grade defence technology more widely available,” said Sander Smeets, CEO of DeltaQuad. “By leveraging VDL’s expertise and capacity, we can respond more rapidly to the growing needs of defence organizations and contribute strategically to allied support.”
The expansion, which includes additional production lines at VDL’s facility in Born, Limburg, ensures that DeltaQuad can quickly adapt its design to evolving tactical requirements, a necessity highlighted by the rapid pace of drone warfare in Ukraine. This investment strengthens Europe’s strategic technological autonomy in the small-drone segment. DeltaQuad is committed to continuing the delivery of cutting-edge UAV technology for both governmental and commercial applications, including infrastructure inspection and large-scale mapping, positioning the Netherlands as a key player in the future of aerial intelligence.
