StarFlight Orders Airbus H145 Helicopters to Boost Tasmania’s Emergency Services

Aviation News – StarFlight has ordered three Airbus H145 helicopters to support Ambulance Tasmania and Tasmania Police, strengthening the state’s emergency response fleet.

Australian aviation provider StarFlight confirmed the purchase on 24 September 2025, marking its entry as a new Airbus customer. The helicopters are scheduled to enter service in late 2027 and will be based in Hobart, serving aeromedical, police, and rescue missions across Tasmania. The order follows StarFlight’s recent selection to deliver the state’s emergency helicopter services, a move aimed at modernising and expanding airborne capabilities.

The H145 model was chosen for its versatility, with the ability to rapidly reconfigure for aeromedical, search and rescue, or law enforcement tasks. This operational flexibility was a key factor in the Tasmanian Government’s decision, ensuring the aircraft can adapt to diverse mission requirements.

“This investment in the H145 helicopters represents a significant upgrade to our emergency air capabilities,” said Michelle Baxter, Acting Chief Executive of Ambulance Tasmania. “The multirole functionality of these aircraft will allow us to respond swiftly to a wide range of emergencies. We look forward to the enhanced service it will bring to our communities.”

Over the next decade, the fleet is expected to log around 1,500 flying hours annually, providing critical support in lifesaving missions. Airbus will supply local parts and technical support to maximise performance and availability.

The introduction of the H145 fleet signals a long-term commitment to improving emergency services in Tasmania. With StarFlight partnering with Airbus and leveraging its established support network in Australia, residents can expect faster, more reliable, and more capable aerial responses in times of crisis.
