Germany’s Quantum Systems Plans Full-Scale Production of the Modular “Sparta” FPV Drone in Ukraine

German drone innovator Quantum Systems is gearing up to launch full-scale manufacturing of its groundbreaking modular FPV drone, the Sparta, in Ukraine—aiming to expand its drone deployment capabilities by year-end.

Still in the prototype phase, the Sparta is a VTOL-style drone featuring a sleek glider-like body, V-tail, and a rear electric rotor. What makes it unique? It can carry and launch multiple smaller FPV drones mid-flight, thanks to mounting points under each wing. That means it doubles as a reconnaissance tool and a drone “mothership”—dramatically extending the range and versatility of smaller drones on the battlefield.

Designed to be catapult-launched and land conventionally, Sparta is expected to boast:

  • A flight endurance of 6–8 hours
  • A range of up to 200 km
  • An 8 kg payload capacity with a maximum take-off weight of 23 kg

Sources say mass production will ramp up in Ukraine before the end of 2025, according to the company’s Ukrainian director, Oleksandr Berezhnyi—who’s already overseen successful local production of Quantum’s Twister and Vector UAVs.

Ukraine: A Production Hub for Quantum Systems

Quantum Systems has made Ukraine a central node in its global operations:

  • In April 2024, it opened a factory in Ukraine, backed by a €6 million investment. Initial plans aimed to produce up to 1,000 drones annually, along with spare parts. The facility also includes an SSTLC (Support, Service, Training & Logistics Center) and an R&D hub.
  • By 2025, the company is doubling its Ukrainian output, manufacturing Vector reconnaissance drones and integrating locally sourced structural components.
  • Recently, a high-level Ukrainian delegation inspected the factory’s ramped-up production lines. Ukraine’s Minister for Strategic Industries noted how the expanded operation—built without state joint ventures—already boasts around 400 locally manufactured Vector drones and plans to increase staffing from 80 to 120.
  • On the tech-innovation front, Quantum is testing acoustic artillery detection sensors for its drones. These petite, needle-sized sensors could enable detection of incoming artillery fire from up to 15 km away—dramatically enhancing counter-battery capabilities.

Sparta: A Glimpse of the Future of Drone Warfare

With local production experience under its belt, Quantum is now pushing forward with the Sparta FPV platform—a leap toward networked drone swarms and modular mission flexibility. While full production hasn’t yet started, the infrastructure is primed, and the demand is clear.

By harnessing local talent, fast-tracked manufacturing, and battlefield-proven designs, Quantum Systems is turning Ukraine into a pivotal hub for next-gen drone warfare.
