Airlink Levels Up: 10 Brand-New Embraer E195-E2 Jets Coming Soon!

Big news in African aviation! South Africa’s Airlink is going next-gen with a fresh deal to lease 10 brand-new Embraer E195-E2 jets from U.S.-based leasing firm Azorra. The first aircraft is expected to land later this year—and yes, it’s going to be sleek.

These modern, fuel-efficient jets will boost Airlink’s current fleet of 68 planes and are set to be fully delivered by 2027. The E195-E2 is no ordinary plane—it seats up to 136 passengers in a comfy two-by-two cabin (so, no middle seat struggles!), making it perfect for high-traffic routes and long-haul connections across sub-Saharan Africa.

Airlink CEO De Villiers Engelbrecht called it both “exciting and daunting,” saying the airline is ready to grow as a major regional player—and maybe even stretch its wings beyond southern Africa.

Azorra CEO John Evans echoed the excitement, highlighting the partnership’s focus on efficiency, sustainability, and expanding African connectivity. Meanwhile, Embraer’s own CEO Arjan Meijer praised Airlink for choosing the “most efficient single-aisle jet in its class.”

Why does this matter?

  • These planes are quieter, greener, and cheaper to operate.
  • Airlink can fly further and more frequently without sacrificing comfort or cash.
  • It’s a major signal that Africa’s aviation scene is taking off—big time.
