Aviation News July 12, 2025 –
A preliminary investigation has been released regarding the incident involving Air India’s Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner, registration VT‑ANB, which occurred at Ahmedabad airport on 12 June 2025. Shortly after takeoff, pilots found out that aircraft’s engine fuel control switches were in the “cutoff” position moments before impact.
This preliminary report indicates that touchdown occurred under normal parameters. However, shortly afterward, the aircraft veered off the paved surface. All 260 passengers and 12 crew members on board were unharmed, and no fatalities or injuries have been reported.
Commanders confirmed that weather conditions at the time included gusty winds and patchy showers, with runway surface contamination suspected but still under review. Engineers have initiated technical inspections, focusing on braking systems, anti-skid functionalities, and runway friction measurements.
Airport operations experienced disruption, with runway 08/26 temporarily closed for approximately four hours as a safety precaution and to facilitate debris clearance and runway friction testing. Flights were diverted or delayed during this interval.
The Flight Safety Investigation Board (FSIB) is coordinating with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Boeing, Air India technical teams, and the aircraft’s manufacturer to analyze flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR) data. They aim to identify any procedural deviations or technical malfunctions. A comprehensive final report is expected within 60 days, though investigators may request an extension if further analysis is required.
