Air Niugini, the national airline of Papua New Guinea, has placed a firm order for two additional Airbus A220-100 aircraft, further expanding its commitment to the latest generation of single-aisle jets. The announcement coincides with the milestone of the airline’s first A220 entering the final assembly phase at Airbus’s Mirabel facility in Canada.

Gary Seddon, Chief Executive Officer of Air Niugini, emphasized the importance of the aircraft to the airline’s future: “The A220 will be central to our domestic and regional operations, playing a vital role in supporting economic growth across Papua New Guinea. With continued strong demand on the horizon, we’ve decided to increase our fleet of this highly efficient aircraft, which will significantly enhance the comfort and performance of our services.”

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales for Airbus Commercial Aircraft, welcomed the repeat order: “This marks Air Niugini’s second commitment to the A220. We are proud to support the airline’s fleet modernization strategy. The A220 stands out as the most efficient aircraft in its class, offering a spacious cabin and the range capabilities needed to serve all destinations in the airline’s network non-stop.”

This latest order reinforces Air Niugini’s strategic investment in fleet renewal, aimed at improving operational efficiency and passenger experience.
