The largest rocket ever made, called Starship, took to the air for the first time today. The rocket from SpaceX, Elon Musk’s space transportation company, exploded a few minutes after it took off.
This was an unmanned test launch in Texas. The main purpose of the test was to take off from the launch table and then fly safely past the tower without blowing things up. That succeeded, and so Musk is also mostly positive about the test launch. “We learned a lot for the next test launch in a few months,” he wrote on Twitter.
The launch was still called off Monday because a valve on board was frozen. Flight control did continue the countdown then, as a dress rehearsal.
