The arrival of four U.S. F-22 fighter planes created a large crowd of spotters this Sunday. Several thousand people stood along the provincial road from Leeuwarden to Stiens to photograph and film the aircraft. It is the first time that type of aircraft can be seen in the Netherlands.

The F-22 Raptor is the focus of an international exercise being held over the North Sea over the next two weeks. The exercise is designed to improve cooperation between the Dutch and U.S. air forces.

“For spotters, this is the most special day since 1993! “That was the day the F-117 was in the Netherlands, a stealth aircraft. And then now the F-22. It’s really bizarrely busy.”

In the coming weeks, there will be two flights a day, morning and afternoon. Even then it is expected to be busy on the roads around the air base.
